I have great experience of working on both short and long term counselling and I have previously counselled women survivors of domestic abuse for over a year with the Adult Therapy pilot project at the Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP) and for over a year and a half at Woman’s Trust. I have supported women whose lives have been affected by forced marriage, female genital mutilation and the so called honour based abuse.
In addition, I have worked exclusively for over 10 years with Arab women who have been affected by domestic abuse in my role as Women Support Practitioner at Al-Aman, the Arabic speaking project of DVIP.
In 2012 I co-produced “Al-Aman toolkit for professionals” which aims to increase professionals’ understanding of specific cultural and religious issues underpinning domestic abuse within the Arab community. I have also delivered specialised training and workshops all over London within statutory, voluntary and community based agencies.
